Wind farm Gnutz 1 b

WKN GmbH has received approval for the construction of a total of four wind turbines. The planned wind farm is located south-west of the village of Gnutz in the municipality of the same name in Schleswig-Holstein.

The designated area is included in the regional plan, which came into force in 2021.

With the Gnutz wind farm, we have the opportunity to make our contribution to the energy transition and harmonise ecology and economy. We are supplying safe and clean energy and investing in Germany as a business location.

About the planned wind turbines

The following specifications are subject to change and may change as the project progresses:

  • Quantity: 3 / 1
  • Type: Vestas V162 / Vestas V150
  • Rotor diameter: 162 m / 150 m
  • Hub height: 119 m / 125 m
  • Total height: 200 m / 200 m
  • Nominal output per WT: 5.6 MW
  • Total rated power: 22.4 MW

This results in the following calculated values:

  • Electricity production per year: approx. 15,000 MWh
  • 3-person households supplied: approx. 4,000 (1)
  • CO2 savings per year: approx. 11,300 tonnes (2)

Environmental protection and nature conservation

Environmental and nature conservation measures play an important role in the approval of our projects: we take sensitive habitats, such as bird migration routes, into account as early as the site selection stage. In addition, necessary protective measures for endangered animal and plant species as well as ecological compensation measures are implemented. Interventions in nature and the landscape are thus fully compensated for in our projects.

Protective measures for endangered animal and plant species:
The construction and operation of the wind turbines near Gnutz are not expected to have any significant adverse effects on wildlife. With regard to the species groups of birds and bats, measures are planned that fulfil the requirements of species protection.

Ecological compensation measures:
The interventions in the landscape and in kink structures required for the construction will be compensated for without exception through compensation payments, eco-accounts and tree planting on site.

Immission reduction measures:
It goes without saying that the maximum permissible guide values for noise and impact shadows will be complied with. In order to reduce night-time light immissions, a demand-controlled night-time signalling system (BNK) will be installed. The system is equipped with ice detection systems to prevent the formation of ice. If icing is detected, the system is stopped and the rotor is brought to a standstill.

Regional added value

It is important to us to realise our wind farm projects together with local people.

We involve citizens through various individualised concepts. For example, we try to involve local companies – whether for construction or mowing work – in order to generate added value in the local region.

In addition, a foundation was set up on the initiative of local landowners with the aim of supporting projects in and around Gnutz. This foundation receives an annual payment from our wind project.

Project history and future
  • February 2021: submission of the application for authorisation in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG)
  • June 2023: receipt of the licence in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG)
  • August 2023: award of contract for participation in tender for onshore wind turbines on 1 August 2023 (Federal Network Agency)
  • October 2023: external and internal land securing incl. cable route | grid connection commitment
  • January 2024: start of construction

Commissioning of the Gnutz 1 b wind farm is planned for October 2024.
