Repowering

The replacement of old wind energy turbines with new powerful wind turbines represents the undisputed supreme discipline of project planning. Planning and corporate challenges, the comparably long time frame for the completion of repowering measures, height limitations as well as various economic aspects make repowering a very complex task.

Services related to repowering are offered by a vast number of companies; however, superficial knowledge is not sufficient in this field. The prerequisites for successful repowering are outstanding expertise in project planning, in-depth knowledge of corporate law and precise coordination within the legal framework. In addition, the continuous observation of all changes made at federal and local levels represents a major challenge.

And while that already sounds difficult enough, further issues need to be dealt with, such as acceptance by the general public (“no wind turbine higher than our spire”), disagreement among the local authorities und the question “when is the best time to engage in repowering”. And, on a loosely related note: What happens to the old wind turbines in case of repowering?

We would be glad to support you to your advantage with our extensive expertise in the field of repowering together with our partner, the BGZ Fondsverwaltung. Our repowering services are a perfect example of the broad and long-standing experience of WKN GmbH. The so-called multi-life cycle of our value creation comprises the entire life cycle of a wind farm starting with the initial site securing followed by its construction and the future repowering of the original project and even beyond.
